Spring Break started when my son walked through the door a little while ago, and although we’re not going anywhere, my brain naturally associates this week off of school with sunscreen. Of course I wear SPF every day (even when I’m spending most of the day at home), today’s 88-degree weather without a cloud in the sky was an irrefutable reminder to screen up—and I’m eyeing these new releases from Glow Recipe and Supergoop.
I will admit that I have yet to try any of Glow Recipe’s products, despite the fact that I find them all so appealing. (Wait, would this be called restraint?) But the new Watermelon Glow Niacinamide Sunscreen SPF 50 is going to change that. I’m all about an SPF that provides some sort of skincare benefit (in addition to broad-spectrum sun protection), but beyond helping to prevent dark spots from forming (as any sunscreen will), this one actually fades the appearance of discoloration you may already have. It features a blend of mineral- and chemical-based UV filters plus hydrating hyaluronic acid and soothing aloe—and it leaves the skin with a sheer, dewy finish. It’s also water-resistant for up to 80 minutes and won’t clog pores. And this photo makes it look straight-up delicious.
It never ceases to amaze me how Supergoop finds a unique angle every time they launch a new sunscreen. (And how everyone goes nuts for it.) This time around, it’s the Every. Single. Face. Watery Lotion—talk about appealing to the broadest possible demographic. This “clean chemical” formula features avobenzone, homosalate, octisalate and octocrylene UV filters, along with barrier-strengthening cress sprout extract and wild butterfly ginger root extract for extra antioxidant defense against pollution and blue light. But the real selling point is the ultra-light texture that delivers a cooling sensation on contact. This offering is also water-resistant (for up to 40 minutes) and appropriate for all skin types.
When was the last time you checked the status of the sunscreens in your beach bag (or bathroom)? If they’ve been sitting idle since last summer, they’re probably expired—which means you have to replace them ASAP.
Which one would you choose?
