Dermaflage concealer doesn't mess around, Klorane's hair-safe take on Sun-In and new Door makeup for everyone!
This concealer can stand up to summer
Breakouts are no fun, and for some yet-to-be-determined reason, I’ve been getting more blemishes than usual. Of course this flare-up had to coincide with the start of summer—and just when the South Florida humidity went into overdrive. I rarely wear foundation unless I’m going out after dark, but concealer is a daily essential for evening out redness around my nose, darkness under my eyes and any other imperfections that may rear their heads (I’m talking to you, pimples!). But as soon as the weather feels like a punch in the face when you walk outside, the concealers I usually use seem to disappear into thin air in as little as the 10 minutes it takes for me to get from my house to Pilates.
I’m thinking it’s time to step up my camouflage game with Dermaflage’s Behind the Scenes Full Coverage Concealer, which promises long-wearing, smudge-proof coverage that lasts all day. Even more, the palette comes with five shades (in both Light and Medium/Dark versions) so you can customize the color for a perfect match, even if your skin tone gets a bit darker as we get deeper into summer. FYI, it’s also powerful enough to cover tattoos, bruises and anything else you don’t want the world to see.
As a writer, I know I’m not supposed to bury the lede, but I figured I’d save the best part for last: It’s waterproof! No more freaking out about your face at pool parties, the beach or the gym—because this stuff isn’t going anywhere. And for the record, it’s ideal for all skin types (i.e. it won’t make breakouts worse) and you can see the results for yourself in this video.
If you ever used Sun-In, you’ll want to read this
If you came of age in the 80s, odds are you tried Sun-In at some point (and very likely had disastrous results). I did a little sleuthing, and it turns out this OG lightening spray’s ingredients included hydrogen peroxide and highly-acidic lemon juice, which is basically a recipe for straw-like and certainly not sun-kissed strands. But, the concept is great in theory… Who wouldn’t want their hair to look like it naturally got lighter from relaxing summer days spent in the surf and sand?
Fast-forward some thirty-odd years, and thanks to Klorane, you can brighten your blonde without a trip a salon. The latest addition to their Chamomile collection is the Sun Lightening Spray with Chamomile and Honey—and if you have light brown or blonde hair, your life is about to get a little sunnier.
Formulated without peroxide, ammonia, parabens, sulfates or anything else you’d think twice about putting on your hair, this gentle conditioning mist is just what you need to kick your blonde up a brightness notch or two—and you don’t even have to sit in the sun for it to work (if you don’t want to).
To make this product even better, Klorane shares three ways to use it, depending on the look you long for…
For overall brighter blonde, give your entire head two good spritzes and brush through.
For an ombre effect, separate your hair into two sections and apply from the mid-lengths to ends. Twirl your hair in a downward direction and then brush through.
For highlights, spray select pieces you’d like to lighten (like around your face), twirl product through to the ends and brush through.
With zero risk of the nightmare experience you or one of your friends had with Sun-In way back when, this lightening mist is certainly worth shot before scheduling your next highlight appointment. Summer 2018 is off to a beautiful start, no?
Drop everything, because a new Dior makeup line just launched
Dior has its fair share of real estate in my makeup drawer, and you’ll rarely find me with a Lip Glow in my bag. I thought I was excited when the brand relaunched one of my all-time favorites, the Airflash Spray Foundation (with eight new shades and a new “routine” that includes a Radiance Mist and Buffing Brush), but then I checked out the new Backstage Pros collection and I nearly lost it.
Inspired by the professional makeup artists and their behind-the-scenes magic, this tightly edited collection comingles with other Dior staples on the site, so you have to pay close attention to find the newbies. Among them are 40 shades of the Face and Body Foundation (along with a new brush for seamless application), two brow palettes, a contour palette, two eye palettes, a highlighting palette, a lip palette and 13 brushes.
Even more, the Backstage microsite site is packed with video tutorials for your lips, lashes and how to get your makeup to last longer. So even if you don’t stock up on these new essentials, at least you can learn how to make the most of the products you already have!
