Clark's Botanicals' solution for clear skin from head to toe, Ouidad's essentials for curl care and Glossier's new mascara is a winner.
How I'm keeping my skin clear these days
I’m all about breakout prevention from head to toe, and I use a salicylic acid cleanser my face and back in the shower every day. I’m not always a skincare snob, and I have absolutely no problem using one from the drugstore. I recently ran out of my CVS generic version, and I was secretly happy because I know I had Clark’s Botanicals’ Skin Clearing Face & Body Wash waiting in the wings.
A MAJOR step up from the cleanser I’ve come accustomed to, this foamy wash delivers the maximum OTC concentration of salicylic acid my skin needs along with nourishing algae extract and a refreshing sensation from head to toe. I love how I can take care of my entire body with one tube (less clutter in the shower!)—and in just a few days I’ve seen improvement in the dry skin on my legs, too. As an aside, I usually shower when I get home from Pilates, and sometimes I’ll have patches of red skin on my legs caused by rubbing if we do a lot of work with our feet in the straps. This irritation goes away after a few hours, but I’ve noticed it’s gone by the time I get out of the shower since I started using this cleanser. Maybe I’m crazy, or maybe it’s the soothing jasmine absolute extract—which my drugstore SA cleanser definitely doesn’t have.
It looks like my and my husband’s skincare snobbery just got a little worse… (Sorry, not sorry.)
Help your hair and Breast Cancer Awareness
It’s that time of year again, ladies… Yup, it’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which not only means you should be scheduling a mammogram if you’ve been putting it off—it also means you can score some great beauty booty while raising much-needed funds for research. While most brands decide to go with a few limited-edition pink products whose proceeds are donated, Ouidad is taking a different approach by donating $1 to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation for EVERY (and any) product sold on their site this month.
Yes, Ouidad is all about the curly-haired girls, but I combed through the site to find a few offerings that anyone can use—even if your hair is stick-straight.
Ultra-Nourishing Intense Hydrating Mask: Because heat damage and over-processing do not discriminate.
Advanced Climate Control Featherlight Styling Cream: Everyone needs help fighting frizz from time to time, and this lightweight styling product smooths strands while shielding them from environmental damage—and it won’t weight down fine hair, either.
Water Works Clarifying Shampoo: When product build-up starts to get in the way of your style, this deep-cleansing shampoo is like a detox for your hair.
Happy shopping (and get that mammogram)!
Glossier did it again...
Glossier is like my beauty kryptonite—no matter how hard I try, I can’t not buy their latest launch the day it drops. One of the latest additions to this near-perfect collection of skincare, makeup and fragrance is the Lash Slick mascara, and let’s just say the 248 formulas that didn’t pass muster before this one was finally found to the “the one” were well worth the trial and subsequent error.
As with most Glossier products, you get exactly what you’re expecting—and more. This unique mascara delivers length, volume, curl and inky black color, but the actual formula is the real stand-out. Its combination of lash-boosting fibers and flexible polymer that binds them to your lashes is immune to flaking and smudging (really!), and though it’s water-resistant, it washes off easily with soap and water at the end of the day without leaving a big-old mess.
One coat is absolutely perfect for daytime, and you can layer up for a bit more drama and definition if you so desire. And at $16, the price point is pretty nice, too—and leaves room for another purchase (or two) when you visit the site.
