Weleda's latest Skin Food offerings, the Edward Bess makeup that rocked my world, the only tee shirts you'll ever need and a surprisingly satisfying cleansing balm from Pond's.
Now there are 3 more ways to enjoy Skin Food
Weleda’s Skin Food has been around for almost 100 years, and it’s become a hydrating go-to for the natural skincare set (before there was even a “natural” skincare movement). Makeup artists and regular people just like us love the stuff for smoothing skin from head to toe, and its relatively low price makes it even better. So needless to say, it was somewhat major news when Weleda announced three new additions to the Skin Food line.
The latest offerings include the Light Nourishing Cream (which is obviously a more lightweight version for those who find the original to be a bit too rich for their skin), a whipped Body Butter that comes in particularly handy right now with winter in full swing and a nourishing Lip Butter to top it all off.
All the plant-based Skin Food products feature rosemary, calendula, chamomile and pansy—yet they have different bases (including sunflower seed oil, lanolin, beeswax and shea butter) to help them achieve their intended goals. These are all great ways to “green” your routine without spending a bundle—and every inch of your skin will thank you.
These highlighters blew me away
There’s a time and place for highlighter, which is why I always have a cream (RMS Beauty’s Master Mixer) and powder (Charlotte Tilbury’s Filmstar Bronze & Glow) at the ready. These two options have had be covered for quite some time, which is why highlighter in kind of at the bottom of my list when it comes to trying (and buying) new products. When I subscribed to Porter magazine a few months ago, they sent along an assortment of Edward Bess sticks—and now I can say I use highlighter just about every day, but not in the way you think.
I received three shades of the Harmonious Hues Light Sticks, including a light taupe, a golden peach and a beautiful bronze. While the two lighter ones most definitely work well as highlighter on my skin tone, I would have to use the darkest for contouring (and that’s not really my thing). BUT, these sticks have become my new go-to eyeshadows for day. Surprisingly pigmented (yet easy to sheer up with blending), the cream-to-powder formula glides on with ease, don’t require any tools other than my fingers and most shockingly, the color stays put all day without creasing or melting away. I really couldn’t be happier that they are part of my life. (I can say the same about Porter as well, as it’s a solid—not fluffy—fashion read.)
The Edward Bess site doesn’t state the names of the shades in the Harmonious Hues Light Stick Trio (which unfortunately the only way to purchase them). The shades online look a bit lighter than the ones I have (see below), but that could just be my computer screen. Regardless, they make it easy to add a bit of polish to my look (even if I’m not going anywhere), and definitely recommend giving them a try!
P.S. I also got the Hug and Kiss Lip Color Glide Duo, and I’m loving these as well. Sheer, hydrating and extremely versatile (you can create the illusion of plumper lips by topping the darker shade with the lighter one just in the center of the lips), these have been in heavy rotation as well.
My favorite tee shirt in the whole wide world
My go-to outfit is usually a tee shirt and jeans—but more of a “fancy” tee shirt than an old raggedy number (I’m actually willing to pay more for one that comes pre-distressed). White and black are obvious staples, and I’ve tried my fair share over the years. However, I can officially say the hunt is over now that “The Supercool” from AYR is part of my life. AYR is definitely on my list of top 10 favorite brands thanks to its elevated yet effortless aesthetic—and the BEST JEANS EVER. (Seriously, your butt has never looked so good.)
But back to the tee shirt… The cotton is beyond soft, the cut is on the looser side and something about it makes you feel like you put a lot more thought into your outfit than just throwing on a simple tee—maybe it’s the subtle seams on the sleeves and down the back. I have white and black Supercools in extra-small (for when I want to tuck or am in the mood for a leaner look) and small—because a girl needs choices.
I haven’t tried any of the other styles (yet), but I have my eye on “The Fizz” because it’s just about time to refresh my sleeveless options. Oh, and guess what… If you buy two or more you save 20%—I promise you won’t be disappointed.
The best budget-friendly cleansing balm ever
There’s no disputing that Pond’s original Cold Cream is a beauty icon, but I’ll admit that I’ve never actually tried it. I love a good throwback, but something about this type of cleanser seems very dated to me—and I’m skeptical about the effects it would have on my sometimes-blemish-prone skin. It’s no secret that I love an oil-based cleaner (so long as it emulsifies upon contact with water), so I didn’t hesitate to purchase the relatively new Pond’s Cold Cream Cleansing Balm when I finished my last jar of step-one cleanser.
I have nothing but good things to say about this wallet-friendly cleansing-balm option, as it thoroughly clears away makeup and leaves my skin feeling soft, fresh and clean before following up with my Tatcha Rice Polish and Bioderma Sensibio H2O micellar water. Decidedly more “now” than its original cold-cream formula, I honestly wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between this and a $60+ counterpart—it’s that awesome.
Let’s just say that the next time I actually have to spend my hard-earned money on an oil-based cleanser, this will be it (although I’m obviously open to alternatives that may be sent to me for review purposes). I’m rather picky when it comes to cleansing balms, and this one ticks all of the boxes, so run (don’t walk) to your local supermarket or drugstore and add this to your skincare arsenal.
