The smartest flat-iron ever, Avene's new lineup of soothing masks, yes you can handle Chanel's cream-based bronzer and hair accessories you may want to consider.
A flat iron that’s on your hair schedule
Raise your hand if you know what temperature setting you should use when you straighten your hair… (Bueller, Bueller?) You probably also don’t know that you should use a lower temperature when touching-up your tresses on day two and three to avoid unnecessary damage. Enter Bed Head’s new Morning After Straightener, which takes the guesswork out of figuring out the best heat setting for your hair.
“Day 1” is the hottest, since this is when you’re initials coaxing your hair into a straight style, while Day 2 and Day 3 serve up less heat since you’re just freshening up, reducing shine and taming any frizz that may have made its presence known.
The one-inch tourmaline-and-ceramic plates are ideal for targeted touch-ups, like around your face and at the nape of your neck—and of course you get relatively standard features like automatic shut-off and a swiveling cord to prevent tangling. And at such a nice price ($35), I can’t think of a better way to bring your style back to life—and stretch the time between washing and styling.
Reset your skin with these new soothing masks
Your skin doesn’t have to be in the midst of a freak out to enjoy some extra TLC, and a soothing mask can deliver a boost in hydration and radiance when you’re not in need of a targeted treatment to address a specific concern. Yet with that said, a calming mask is a must in times of skin stress, whether caused by irritation, sunburn or a professional treatment.
The latest skin-soothing treatments to come across my desk are courtesy of Eau Thermale Avene, which has always done right by my skin regardless of its state at any given time. I absolutely love, love, love the new Soothing Sheet Mask because it gives my skin a visible pick-me-up in just 10 minutes (without having to rinse). Infused with hydrating sorbitol and soothing Avene Thermal Spring Water, it also has a cooling effect that’s much appreciated when it’s warm outside (or when the hubs and I are battling over the thermostat).
If you prefer a traditional cream-based mask, you’ll want to slather on the Soothing Moisture Mask. Its rich texture makes it ideal for times when skin is dry, and although you only need to leave it on for 10-15 minutes, you’ll likely want to wait longer before wiping it off. (There’s no rinsing required for this one, either.) Perfect for after a day of fin in the sun—or during an Arctic blast—you’ll be surprised how quickly it gets your skin back on track.
And while we’re talking about Avene, I recently plowed through a jar of the Moisturizing Melt-in Balm. This decadent cream is so rich I thought it would take forever to absorb, but I was shocked at how quickly my skin drank it up—and how soft and smooth it was after one use. I suppose it’s the blend of shea, camelina and safflower oils plus glycerin and Avene’s soothing thermal spring water (no stinging after shaving my legs!), and the scent is delicate yet absolutely divine.
This bronzer totally deserves its cult-favorite status
Bronzing powder has been part of my daily makeup routine for as long as I can remember. I’ve tried too many to count, but I can say M.A.C’s Bronzing Powder in “Golden,” Charlotte Tilbury’s Filmstar Bronze & Glow and IT Cosmetics’ Confidence in Your Glow are the first favorites that come to mind. When I found myself in need of a new one, I also found myself in a conundrum because it was one of those rare instances when I had no idea what I wanted to get. Then I saw Chanel’s Soleil Tan de Chanel mentioned somewhere for the millionth time and off to the mall I went.
Decidedly different than practically every other bronzer I’ve ever used, this is a cream-based formula—but you apply it with a brush so I didn’t have to adjust my technique all that much. At first I was a bit intimidated, because I was worried it would be too dark. But as it turns out, it delivers quite possibly the most natural-looking sun-kissed color ever. The key is to use a fluffy foundation brush (synthetic fibers are your best bet), and swirling it gently over the product before ever-so-lightly buffing it into the cheeks, temples and sides of the forehead. (Oh, and don’t forget your neck.) There is zero sparkle or shimmer, and it leaves skin with a velvety finish. You can also use it with a smaller brush for more concentrated color or contouring.
I know I’m a bit late to game on this product, but better late than never, right? I’m so glad I finally know what all the buzz has been about—and I have definitely seen the light. If you’re starting to think about updating your makeup for spring, I would definitely add this to your list.
An easy way to step up your hair game
We all have bad hair days from time to time… My go-to for camouflaging an out-of-control coif is a head scarf, but I realize that this look isn’t always appropriate, say, if you have to go to an actual office. Fortunately, there are other alternatives than can help you make the most of a not-so-stellar situation while elevating your overall look.
Hair accessories are going to be huge for spring, and barrettes, embellished bobby pins and scrunchies are going to be everywhere. (Have you seen the Gucci barrette that’s sure to sell out?) I got a sneak peek at Colette Malouf’s spring collection and there’s no shortage of lust-worthy options. Think feminine flowers, sparkling stones and lots of pretty pastels that make a statement without saying a word. I’m especially into this embellished headband, which will look so cute with a breezy dress or even just a white tee and jeans. And best of all, these on-trend accessories help you stress less about styling your hair, and who doesn’t want that?
Be sure to check out Colette Malouf’s site for the goodies you can get right now, and sign up for emails so you know when the spring collection is in!
