5 (fashion) things I’m totally obsessed with right now
This is basically my fall/winter/forever capsule wardrobe.
Beauty may be my writing “beat,” but I’m equally as consumed with clothes. This is actually somewhat ironic because I rarely have a reason to get gussied up, but putting some sort of ensemble together everyday is just how I roll. And with that said, these are the pieces that are at the highest level of rotation right now.
Lemaire Croissant bag
I’m am so thrilled to be out of the “tote bag” stage of my life. From the Louis Vuitton Neverfull to the Goyard Artois (which are still both perfect for travel)—been there, done that. My son is 15 and I work exclusively from home, so all I really need when I’m out and about is my Mansur Gavriel zip card case, a lip gloss (or three), mints, my car fob and my phone. I’ve been leaning into the small-bag energy for the past few years (specifically with Isabel Marant’s Skano belt bag and a small fringed Proenza Schouler crossbody), and I splurged on Lemaire’s Croissant when I was in NYC in April. I’ve been using it ever since, but its off-white color feels slightly seasonally inappropriate, even though I live it South Florida and it was 90 degrees outside today. I never thought I’d consider having the same bag in multiple colors but I’m eyeing the Croissant in the rich brick red pictured above.
Lululemon Softstreme High-Rise Straight-Leg Cropped Pant
I am not over-exaggerating when I say that these are the only pants I want to wear right now. The fabric is beyond cozy, the cropped length is just right for my 5’3” height and there are pockets! I first slipped into them on a Sunday morning for my son’s basketball game (paired with a black tank top), and my husband said I looked dressed up. And truth be told, I wore them through Monday. These days I’m all about comfort, and although I usually wear a size 4 in Lulu leggings, I bought these in an 8—and it was totally the right move for a little extra wiggle room. Confession: I ordered another pair of this slightly different ribbed version yesterday and CANNOT wait for them to arrive.
RLT tees and tanks
Truth: I’m really self-conscious about my stomach and hate super-tight tops (unless it’s a compression bodysuit), but I love the look of a basic ribbed tee or tank. I was first introduced to RLT via Vogue.com, and intrigued by the brand’s simple 90s-inspired t-shirt design that promised a slim fit with give. I bought one and can’t get enough of it. It’s technically cropped but I have a short torso, which means it hits below my natural waist, and also means no dealing with tucking. (I hate that too, by the way.) So when I got an email about the drop of a tank top, I promptly ordered both the black and white. The style is so perfect that these have become my go-to tops with jeans, trousers, my aforementioned Lulu pants and pretty much any other bottom.
Skims Soft Lounge Long Slip Dress
I’ll be honest, I am not a Kardashian fan—and at some point I swore I would never buy anything from Skims. That all changed when I went to Nordstrom for new bras after my mastectomy, and I am now the proud owner of about a half-dozen Fits Everybody Crossover Bralettes (and matching Cheeky Briefs). In the time since, I became intrigued with this dress and recently caved. In person, I realized it’s really long, so I asked the salesperson if people get it hemmed—but she suggested I try gathering it along my waist and hips to achieve my desired length. Bingo! The best thing about this curve-hugging yet ultra-flattering dress is that it can be dressed-up with a blazer and strappy sandals or dressed-down with flip flops and jean jacket.
Quince Mongolian Cashmere Oversized Boyfriend Cardigan Sweater
Nothing makes me happier than cashmere. I had been lusting after Jenni Kayne’s version of this cardigan forever, but I just couldn’t justify spending $500—again, because I live in Florida and our sweater-weather amounts to roughly 10 days of the entire year. But I was willing to part with $139 for the Quince dupe (and seriously, it’s exactly the same). I may not have worn this wearable hug out of the house yet, but I wear it around the house almost every day because I’m always cold and it is the yummiest thing ever. BTW, Quince is a freaking gold mine if you’re into high-quality basics, and they have everything from silk camis and dresses to leggings, bedding, jewelry and so much more. They also have a 365-day return policy—but I’ve only had to use it once.
