An intriguing new anti-aging serum
Nothing gets my inner beauty geek's attention like talk about biology beyond the skin.
Before I get out of bed in the morning, I do a quick scan of the emails that came in overnight—just to make sure nothing needs immediate attention before I make breakfast and lunch, drive my kid to school, work out, shower and ultimately get settled into my office for the day. They’re usually newsletters from the outlets I subscribe to and marketing emails from brands or retailers, and clearing out anything unnecessary actually helps me start the day feeling a little bit less overloaded.
This morning, I received an email from Shen Beauty (one of my favorite clean beauty and wellness destinations) announcing the launch of IDEO Skin Memory Serum—along with the brand backstory that includes science terms like the blood-brain barrier, oxidation and mitochondrial mutations. This is a lot to take in before my coffee, so I flagged the email as unread so I could take a closer look when I sat down to work.
We all tend to associate aging with what we see in the mirror, but the passage of time affects every single cell in our bodies, including our brain. IDEO founder Dr. John Blass is an award-winning neurologist and researcher who has dedicated his career to the study and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease. He patented a formula of resveratrol, malate and antioxidants called RMA Complex that has been found to effectively reverse cognitive decline—and he has adapted this technology for the skin.
Not to depress you on a Friday, but aging happens throughout the brain and body as our cells “forget” how to function properly. Visible signs of aging on our skin are no different. With time, skin-cell metabolism slows and accumulated oxidation leads to DNA mutations. When coupled with a lifetime of environmental exposure, the skin loses its youthful firmness and vitality. (Again, sorry to be a downer.)
On the bright side, the RMA Complex that has been found to help regenerate brain cells when ingested can now be used to restore your skin cells’ memory, and help them act younger again. (Dr. Blass made this connection after applying the original complex to a scar his wife had—and saw it heal within weeks.)
The Skin Memory Serum has a light, milky texture and provides the skincare benefits of hyaluronic acid, niacinamide and vitamin C along with his proprietary RMA Complex. Although any product backed by such sophisticated science doesn’t come cheap (i.e. $175), consider these results:
CLINICAL RESULTS AFTER JUST FOUR WEEKS:
• 63% experienced improvement in skin redness
• 50% experienced improvement in hyperpigmentation
• 67% experienced improvement to skin tone
• Over 70% noticed an anti-aging benefit after using the serum
My only question is: Will it help me remember why I walked into the kitchen?
