Supergoop! wants to support your skin barrier
I'm not sure if I should file this under skincare or SPF because it's definitely both.
If you think the only place for an SPF oil is at the beach or pool, au contraire my friends. In fact, an oil-based facial sunscreen may actually do your skin even more favors during cold, dry winter months.
It all goes back to the skin barrier, and I find myself writing about this outermost layer of skin practically every day. (This wasn’t the case just a few years ago.) Simply put, the skin barrier is like a brick wall. The skin cells are the “bricks” and a blend of ceramides and lipids are the “mortar.” A healthy skin barrier helps keep moisture in and irritants out, while an unhealthy skin barrier allows anything and everything to come and go as they please. (This often contributes to dryness, sensitivity, irritation—and can make skin conditions like eczema worse.)
Since you’re using sunscreen every day (right?), why not use one that helps reinforce the skin’s barrier as it deflects damaging UV rays? Enter Supergoop!’s new Daily Dose Hydra-Ceramide Boost + SPF 40 Oil. In my opinion, the skincare benefits are the main event in this formula since it delivers all the moisture and nourishment of a facial oil—including extra ceramides to help fill in any skin-barrier gaps. You also get hydrating hyaluronic acid and squalane, a pre- and post-biotic complex and soothing rice germ extract.
The SPF 40 almost feels like an afterthought, but this multi-tasking product does the work of your moisturizer and sunscreen in one step. It also fends off the damaging effects of pollution, blue light and infrared radiation—and leaves your skin looking oh-so dewy.
If you’re one of those people who think you can’t use a facial oil because it will make you break out, I’m here to tell you it won’t. (I’ll convince you eventually.) In fact, this face oil is suitable for all skin types. Those with oily or combination skin can use it on its own, while those with drier skin can use it over moisturizer to seal the deal (so to speak).
Full disclosure: This is a chemical-based sunscreen and it uses avobenzone, homosalate, octisalate and octocrylene UV filters. All of Supergoop!’s products are “clean” and reef-friendly, but I know this can be a dealbreaker for some of you. I just wanted you to have all the info so there are no surprises if you run out and snag a bottle for yourself.
