If I had to rate myself on a “picker” scale of 1 to 10, I’d be at a solid 8. Although every fiber of my being tells me to leave that pimple alone, it is literally impossible for me to walk around with a whitehead on my face. I’d rather deal with the aftermath. (Fortunately my son did not inherit this trait. He’s just fine taking a big-old blemish to school, but he’ll ask for a zit sticker when he comes home so I’m sure he’s mine.)
Although I don’t experience breakouts nearly as often as I used to (upside of being 45!), I’m definitely not immune. When I just can’t resist going in, my aprés pimple (or ingrown) popping treatment involves a dab of Neosporin or Biafine—and as long as I leave things alone from there everything clears up in a day or two.
Earlier this week I got an email about the launch of Carter+Jane’s PostPick, and my first thought was, Where have you been all of my life? Poised as a natural alternative to wound-cleaning go-tos like rubbing alcohol (ouch!) and hydrogen peroxide that don’t do your skin’s microbiome any favors, PostPick is packed with certified-organic anti-inflammatory botanicals like Roman chamomile, French lavender, eucalyptus and tea tree). It also features pre- and probiotics to restore the skin’s natural good-bacteria balance, since an unbalanced microbiome is believed to contribute to breakouts in the first place. FYI, PostPick can be used on boo-boos of any variety—but keep in mind this product is designed for use immediately after you do the deed.
Once the healing process is underway, PickFix steps in. This blend of certified-organic, cold-pressed Turkish pomegranate seed oil and Moroccan prickly pear seed oil is infused with Roman chamomile, Bulgarian lavender, Australian tea tree and South African eucalyptus essential oils to set the stage for optimal healing and minimal scarring thanks to a high level of natural vitamin E. BTW, this oil can also be used on any type of wound, or even to smooth and soothe patches of dry flaky skin.
Although I certainly don’t advocate picking, I am in favor of having the proper products on hand to help minimize the damage. And truth be told, part of me is happy every time I get a pimple because it means the hormones are still flowing…
